My favourite magazines List #6

I love magazines, always have.  They are a great source of inspiration, top ideas and nice to relax and flick through with a cuppa.  When I was 17 my bedroom wall was wallpapered floor to ceiling with A4 pages torn from magazines.  It looked fantastic, wish I had a camera back them so I could have captured it.

This is my list of  favourites:

Mollie Makes
Real Living
Inside Out
Frankie
Country Style
Donna Hay
Women's Weekly
Better Homes & Gardens
Home Beautiful
House & Garden
Shop 4 Kids

Confession: I have every edition of Real Living magazine since it was first published in September 2005.  I still flick through past issues from time to time if I need ideas.

Cotton Time magazine is an extremely cute Japanese craft magazine.  You read it from back to front and although written in Japanese the patterns and diagrams are easy to follow.

It features the most gorgeous and exquisite little things to make and stitch.

Even though this Marie Claire idees magazine is written in French,  the pictures have given me some great ideas for my kid's bedrooms

This photo was my first inspiration to try applique.

This photo made me want to paint all the chairs in my house red.  I also used the aeroplanes (shown on the wall)  for an applique design  on a cot pocket organiser for my son's bedroom.

Are you a magazineaholic too?

new word art for Valentine's Day..

Have just delivered some more fabric word art to stockists Fresco House & Flowers and to Davies & son in time for Valentine's Day.  Luckily I had finished the majority of the framing before my daughter's scooter accident.

This is one I just finished this afternoon and sent to Davies & Son.  The fabric I used was vintage floral.

The inspiration for this quote comes from a song of the same name in the movie When Harry Met Sally . The music was written by George Gershwin and has had many notable recordings from artists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.  I quite like Harry Connick, Jr's version, maybe because I've seen 'When Harry Met Sally' so many times, but I never tire of hearing it.

List #5 unexpected happenings...

My list for this week has taken an unexpected turn.

We found ourselves in the emergency department yesterday afternoon after Miss 12 had a nasty fall on her scooter. After a very long wait for pain killers, seeing doctors, X-rays and CT scans she was admitted overnight to have surgery on a fractured ankle and then a plaster.

Sometimes things happen for a reason. It has made our family value what is important in life.

So here is my list for this week..
# being there for your family
# valuing love and support from friends & family
# appreciate & care for each other
# don't take things for granted
# being kind

I am so grateful to be able to do what I love and work from home and still be able to look after my family when unexpected things happen.

It's also made me realise what so many people go through when their loved ones are hurt or sick and maybe I could be more supportive to my friends & family in ways I hadn't made time for or thought of before.

And don't take your comfy bed for granted. Two nights curled up in a hospital chair is not good for your back!!

getting some new orders.. List #4

Getting back into routine now, kids are back at school and I've been whizzing up some new things.

List for this week - make some doorstops, fabric word art for my stockists (Valentine's Day next week) and stock up on materials.

I've blogged about this fabric (above) before, it's really sweet as it features Melbourne's trams, horse drawn carriages, the MCG, Arts Centre and Flinders Street train station.  This is one of my best sellers.

Currently sewing up the fabric word art so will show some photos soon.  It's a sewing marathon at the moment and I love it.
